Face of the Earth™ digital imagery may be licensed for one-time/ one-project/ one-product use, and for multiple use with some layers and the lower resolutions, as indicated in the table below. Call for a quote if you have an interest in licenses for the higher resolution images or in applications such as end-user publications (printed or digital).
Note: High resolution regions are also available— alone or in conjunction with a lower resolution global image. A common application involves zooming from a global or continental view down to a particular point of interest. Generally, this can be done economically as a two-image configuration with the high resolution regional image centered over the subject location. Call for custom configurations and pricing.
Variations of the cloudless Face of the Earth image plus six overlay options are offered below. The layers are supplied as matching lat-long grids for 2D and 3D modeling. The full globe cloud and ice layer is a new addition, available to 2-km resolution. These city lights are also new, with more consistent quality than the dataset it replaced. Land elevation and bathymetry (ocean depth) are grayscale images in which the pixel values represent relative height. Political borders are also grayscale raster images in which coastlines can be distinguished from border lines. The grayscale water mask, with major waters=0 and land=255, also contains pixel values of 64, 128, and 192, in order to preserve more coastal detail. The usual water masks treat polar and shelf ice as "not sea", but the alternative is also available.

Historical note: The meter was originally defined as 1-10 millionth of the distance from equator to pole (10,000 km). So it follows that the earth is close to 40,000 km around at the equator, which would be the image width in pixels for a full 1-km/pixel image.
